The Idle Historian

Illustration of a thoughtful female historian standing in a vintage library, holding an open antique book under warm lamplight, surrounded by tall wooden bookshelves filled with old leather-bound books.

The Idle Historian is a complementary space within Echoes & Oddities dedicated to the history we didn’t learn in school, the forgotten, and overlooked stories buried in the past.

This is where we slow down.

Where we step away from the stories we learn about over and over and into the hidden parts of history — the women erased from textbooks, the bizarre medical cases, the kings and queens, war heroes, celebrities and even some myths you have never heard of. I will even tackle historical celebrities, ancient history and some unsolved disappearances that never made the front page, and the royal scandals that history tried to tidy up. I will also touch on some Mythology that some have tried to pass off as reality.

Here, curiosity has no deadline.

The Idle Historian explores:

(Some stories are available now. Others are coming soon.)

Every post is carefully researched, thoughtfully told, and designed for readers who love strange and ancient history, stories with true crime undertones, and the stories that don’t fit neatly into textbooks.

If you’ve ever felt drawn to the unusual footnotes of history…
You’re in the right place.
